Geez it's been forever. I've thought about blogging, but never actually sat down and did it. Last time was September and before I got the job at New York & Company. I started it on September 6, and now I'm going to be interviewed at the beginning of January for the open manager spot, which is a salary job. I guess I'll start with the whole manager spot...

I was working Saturday, December 11 from 6pm until 11pm, which we closed at 10. Anyway, the one manager Mandy was working, and then it was supposed to be me and another girl. The other girl never showed up, and Mandy said she tried calling her and couldn't get a hold of her. So Mandy is working the register and I'm up front helping people and straightening up since Saturdays are crazy and people are stupid so the store ends up being a complete mess. Around 7:45 or so, Mandy walks up to me with her coat on and her purse in hand. She says to me, "Diane, I'm sorry to do this to you, but I quit." Now, we have to have a manager in the store at all times. She then tells me that the store manager will be up there in a few minutes and she leaves. So, I'm left alone on a Saturday night. After Mandy walked out, I went back to the register and started checking people out. I was just worried that we were going to get really busy before the manager showed up. Right after I get back to the register, the store manager calls and asks for Mandy. I tell her that she's not there. That's when my store manager informs me that Mandy had called her and said she couldn't take it anymore, but my manager told Mandy to stay there until she could get up there because it was going to be like a half hour because her husband had her car and she didn't have keys to his truck. So she calls up another employee who lives close to the mall and asks her if she can get up there to help me out for a little while. So I have some help in about 5 minutes from her. It also turns out that the one girl who was supposed to work that night had told Mandy that she wasn't going to be able to make it in. Mandy was just lying to everyone and a big fucking idiot to top it all off. Yeah, how good does that look to walk out when you're a manager and leave one person there who isn't a manager. She had better not ever put NY&Co down on her resume because she'll never get a job again. Nobody I work with can understand how someone could do that. That'd be why there's a manager spot open though.

I was going to ask my store manager about the open manager spot, but she came to me first and asked if I was interested. I have to get my resume together, which it's set up for a programming job right now since that's what my degree is for... I'm not really sure what I'm going to do with it for this job. I've never had a job as a manager before, and until this job I've never had a job that dealt with me dealing with customers. I've been a dishwasher, worked at a florist, did lunch menus and lunch cards for a school district, made a web page for a guy's pottery business, and then got the job with NY&Co. I made the most money when I watched the kid during the summer, oddly it was the same or more than I'm making now... Both his parents are doctors, so yeah... Plus it was $6.50 an hour. 50 cents more than I make now, plus no taxes or anything taken out. The kid annoyed me more than anything, but then again I have to deal with stupid people who leave 20 clothing items on the floor turned inside out in the dressing rooms and who try to get one item and mess up all of the others in the process. I'll never understand how people can be so ignorant. I think everyone should have to work in a store and a restaurant just to understand how horrible people really are, that way they won't be horrible whenever they go to either place. I've done both, and I was never an inconsiderate bastard in the first place. All I have to say is that it will open your eyes to how ignorant people are.
